Robert A. Iger to become CEO of Disney the Walt Disney Company

Robert A. Iger will become Disney’s executive officer with immediate effect. The Walt Disney Company announced on November 20.

Iger has served as the CEO of the company for 15 years. And has spent more than 4 decades in the company.

They will provide their service to the company for 2 years.

“We thank Bob Chapek for his service to Disney over his long career, which has included navigating the company through the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic,” said board chair Susan Arnold.

“Mr. Iger deeply respects Disney’s senior leadership team, having served as Executive Officer for 11 months prior to becoming Chairman. Disney employees around the world greatly admire him,” she said.

The Board President position is irrevocable, which is held by Susan Arnold.

“I am very optimistic about the future of the company. And I’m thrilled to return as CEO of the company,” said Mr. Iger

“Disney and its incredible brands and franchises hold a special place in the hearts of many people around the world. A company holds a special place in the hearts of our employees, whose dedication to the company and its mission is an inspiration.”

Under Bob Iger’s leadership, Disney has become one of the world’s most successful and admired media and entertainment companies.

He has expanded on Disney’s legacy of unique storytelling with the acquisitions of Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm and 21st Century Fox and The market capitalization of the company has increased five times.

Robert A. Iger Biography

Robert A. Iger is an American businessman and the chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of The Walt Disney Company. Iger was named Disney’s chairman and COO in 2000, and later succeeded Michael Eisner as CEO in 2005.

Iger was born in 1951 in New York City. He graduated from the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College in 1973. Iger began his career as a weatherman at ABC affiliate WENNI-TV in Ithaca, New York. He later became a programming coordinator for ABC in 1974. He then moved up the ranks at ABC, serving as director of sports programming in 1976 and later as vice president of ABC Entertainment from 1985 to 1988.

In 1989, Iger was named president of ABC Entertainment. During his tenure, ABC saw success with shows such as Roseanne, Home Improvement, and NYPD Blue. Iger was also instrumental in the development of ABC’s successful TGIF programming block.

In 1995, Iger was named president of ABC’s corporate parent, Capital Cities/ABC. Capital Cities/ABC was acquired by The Walt Disney Company in 1996, and Iger became a Disney executive. He served as the president of Disney’s television and entertainment division from 1999 to 2000.

In 2000, Iger was named chairman and COO of Disney. He was named CEO in 2005 and President in 2012. Under Iger’s leadership, Disney has seen tremendous success. He has overseen the acquisitions of Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm and the launch of the successful Disney+ streaming service. Iger has also been instrumental in expanding the Disney brand around the world.

Iger has been widely praised for his leadership of Disney. He has been named one of the World’s Most Influential People by Time magazine and one of the World’s Best CEOs by Barron’s. Iger has also been honored with the Disney Legends Award, and was inducted into the Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 2019.
